Nationals activate Joey Gallo (shoulder) from IL
Robert Edwards-USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Nationals activated first baseman/designated hitter Joey Gallo from the 10-day injured list prior to Friday night's game against the host Philadelphia Phillies.

Gallo was placed on the IL on April 27 due to a right shoulder sprain. He missed the past 17 games.

Gallo, 30, batted .122 with three homers and five RBIs in 23 games prior to the injury. He has struck out 43 times in 74 at-bats in his first season with Washington.

Gallo has 201 career homers in 886 games but has a lowly .195 batting average and has struck out 1,233 times while playing for five teams. He has spent the bulk of his career with the Texas Rangers (2015-21).

Washington optioned infielder Trey Lipscomb to Triple-A Rochester in a corresponding move.

Lipscomb, 23, was batting .252 with one homer and nine RBIs in 33 games with Washington.
