Former New York Giants star issues brutal take on 2024 season
Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Giants are not expected to be very competitive during the 2024 NFL season. After a relatively quiet offseason that culminated with Daniel Jones being given another chance to be the starting quarterback, fans are not expecting much.

Many thought that the Giants would be aggressive in the 2024 NFL Draft to trade up for one of the top quarterback prospects in the class. While they walked away with standout wide receiver Malik Nabers, the quarterback position is still a massive question mark. They also lost star running back Saquon Barkley to the division rival Philadelphia Eagles in free agency.

With all of that being said, the Giants must find a way to start the season well or they run the risk of everything spiraling quickly.

Former New York Giants Star Reveals Brutal Take On 2024 Season

One former New York Giants’ star agrees with the fact that the team must start quickly to begin the 2024 season. Plaxico Burress, a former star wide receiver for the franchise, did not hold back his thoughts.

“We (the Giants) gotta win our first two football games. If we don’t…we could basically start out 0-5, 0-6.”

Looking at the New York Giants’ schedule, they begin their season with a home game against the Minnesota Vikings. That game is winnable. The next two come against the Washington Commanders and Cleveland Browns, who are both beatable teams as well.

While the Dallas Cowboys are not a team that the Giants are likely to beat, they could get a win in Week 5 on the road against the Seattle Seahawks. Then, the going gets tough.

For the Giants, they’ll need to come together quickly. If they can beat the Vikings, Commanders, Browns, and Seahawks, they’ll go 4-2 to begin the year. That would give them a fighting chance.

On the other hand, should they lose two of those games, their season will be in jeopardy.

Honestly, the New York Giants are at least a year away from competing. Next offseason, they have been rumored to be a potential landing spot for Cowboys’ star quarterback Dak Prescott if he leaves Dallas. They are also being linked to free agent head coach Bill Belichick.

It’s likely that the 2024 season will not be friendly to the Giants. They’ll likely struggle offensively with Jones leading the way. However, fans can keep hoping that the franchise can put together a massive 2025 offseason to get the team back on track.
